Larry Lund Jr.'s
Poker Run 2006

Poker Run fund Raiser for Larry Lund Jr.
Why the fund raising?

Larry desperately needs therapy and his insurance only covers 100 days per year at which time he would go into a nursing home environment.

Larry Lund Jr. a 47 yr. old Air Traffic Controller working and living the good life in Hawaii was critically injured in a motorcycle accident on May 20, 2005 Friday night approx 9 pm.   He suffered severe head injuries and was admitted to the Queen's Medical hospital intensive care unit in Honolulu Hawaii. They performed surgery to relieve pressure to the left side of his brain.  His condition was life threatening at that time and progress was being measured minute to minute.  He arrived at the hospital in a coma and the doctors put him in a medication induced coma to rest brain activity.  The fact that he got through the first night was a good sign.  His parents and 2 sisters arrived in Honolulu the next day.

The Accident as reported on May 21, 2005.
Larry was going only about 3-5 miles per hour.  No helmet law in Hawaii.  His injuries are:
Main one--left subdural hematoma Note! Larry had a craniectomy. A craniotomy is the surgical removal of a section of bone (bone flap) from the skull for the purpose of operating on the underlying tissues, usually the brain. The bone flap is replaced at the end of the procedure. If the bone flap is not replaced, the procedure is called a craniectomy. A craniotomy is used for many different procedures within the head, for trauma, tumor, infection, aneurysm, etc.
Other injuries. Right cervical fracture - fracture to the back of his hand and 4 ribs - right temporal contusion

Today (Feb. 24, 2006) he has a feeding tube and has lost the use of his right side (arm and leg).  He is going thru physical, occupational and speech therapies.  He cannot communicate very well.
